Falls Church Opens 2nd Round Of Pandemic Recovery Grant Program

FALLS CHURCH, VA — The City of Falls Church Economic Development office opened the application process on Monday for the second round of its small business and nonprofit pandemic recovery grant program, with updated eligibility requirements.

The $5,000 grants will be available to help eligible small businesses and nonprofit organizations pay for COVID-related expenses. The funding comes from the City of Falls Church’s share of the American Rescue Plan Act.

Visit the city’s website to apply for a small business or nonprofit grant.

The requirements for the grant differ from the previous round and other city grants. To be eligible for the grant, the business or nonprofit must have been in operation at least prior to or on Jan. 1, 2019, in a City of Falls Church commercial location.

Applicants must also have had a 25-percent to 80-percent loss in revenue between the end of calendar years 2019 and 2020, and had gross receipts of no less than $30,000 and no more than $1 million.

Unlike previous rounds of the city's grant program, businesses and nonprofit groups are eligible if they previously received city, state, or federal financial assistance, including Economic Development Authority micro grants or Paycheck Protection Program loans.

If the business or nonprofit is eligible and receives a grant, grant funds can be used for expenses directly related to the impacts of COVID-19 such as retaining and supporting employees, rent or mortgage payments, paying vendor invoices, and facility cleaning and restoration.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 13 at 11:59 p.m. They must be completed in full and include an uploaded W-9 as well as a Letter of Determination and Form 990 if applicable.

Awardees will be chosen at random after eligibility is confirmed. The grant application is a public document, and the names of the businesses awarded funds may be made public once funds are disbursed, the city said.

Grant recipients will be required to use the funds by Sept. 30, 2022 and to submit a final report of how funds were spent by Oct. 31, 2022.
