Famed CA Surgeon Dies After Giving Lip Fillers To Sick Patient

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A famed plastic surgeon, Dr. Payman Simoni, died last week after he reportedly contracted the coronavirus from a patient he was administering lip injections to. He was 50.

The Beverly Hills community was mourning the loss of Simoni, who owned a practice situated on North Rodeo Drive. Simoni was considered to be one of the area's leading nose surgeons, according to his website.

After contracting the virus, Simoni quickly fell ill and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. While in the hospital his symptoms became severe and he was placed in a medically induced coma before he died of a brain hemorrhage Jan. 15, TMZ reported.

The patient's temperature was taken prior to the appointment, but days after she left, she called Simoni's office to inform the staff of her positive coronavirus diagnosis. Simoni was reportedly wearing a mask during the procedure, according to multiple reports.

Simoni has appeared on "The Doctors" show and was listed on his website as "one of Hollywood's top 5 plastic surgeons."

Back in the spring of 2020, the Centers for Disease Control recommended that healthcare facilities prioritize emergency visits and halt elective procedures to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

In May, they issued guidance for facilities looking to resume elective care services.

Health officials in California are urging residents to stay home now more than ever, especially in Los Angeles, where cases recently surpassed the 1 million mark.

The county has reported a total of 1,014,662 cases, with 11,366 new cases reported on Sunday.
