As the newspaper industry has changed over the decades, few things have offered comforting stability like starting the day with our favorite morning comic strips.

We've read them aloud around the breakfast table, caught up with our favorite characters over coffee and watched our kids laugh over some of the same strips we loved as children.

While some of our favorites have endured, other comic offerings in The Register-Guard have evolved to better reflect the culture and tastes of the times.

In an effort to continue to improve readers' experience across the USA TODAY Network, we are refreshing our comic page offerings starting in October.

After surveying and listening to our loyal readers, some strips are going away, but many favorites will remain — and we hope you'll discover a few new ones to love.

In our daily lineup, Tundra, Get Fuzzy, Mutts, B.C., Doonesbury, Pluggers, Bizarro, Rex Morgan, Carpe Diem, Sally Forth and Prickly City are going away but we're adding Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crankshaft, Frank & Ernest and Born Loser.

The daily section will now include 22 comics: Baby Blues, Baldo, Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Born Loser, Crabgrass, Crankshaft, Dennis the Menace, Family Circus, For Better or Worse, Frank & Ernest, Garfield, Hagar, Jump Start, Luann, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Peanuts, Pearls Before Swine, Pickles, Ziggy and Zits.
