Familiar faces, and some changes, coming to Statesman Journal comics

Peanuts and Garfield are among the comic strips featured in the Statesman Journal's new comics lineup that will debut in October.

As the newspaper industry has changed over the decades, few things have offered comforting stability like starting the day with our favorite morning comic strips.

We've read them aloud around the breakfast table, caught up with our favorite characters over coffee and watched our kids laugh over some of the same strips we loved as children.

While some of our favorites have endured, other comic offerings in the Statesman Journal have evolved to better reflect the culture and tastes of the times.

In an effort to continue to improve readers' experience across the USA TODAY Network, we are refreshing our comic page offerings starting in October.

After surveying and listening to our loyal readers, some strips are going away, but many favorites will remain — and we hope you'll discover a few new ones to love.

Carpe Diem, Mother Goose & Grimm, Grand Avenue, B.C., Rhymes with Orange and Prickly City are going away while Dennis the Menace, For Better or Worse, Ziggy, Marmaduke and Jump Start will join our daily lineup.

The daily section will now include 17 comics: Baby Blues, Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Crabgrass, Dennis the Menace, Family Circus, For Better or Worse, Garfield, Hagar, Jump Start, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Peanuts, Pearls Before Swine, Pickles, Ziggy and Zits.

On Sundays, Carpe Diem, Wizard of ID, Shoe, Doonesbury, Sally Forth, Mother Goose & Grimm, B.C., Prince Valiant, Marvin and Uncle Art's Funland are going away but we're adding Zits, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Foxtrot, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crankshaft, Luann and Baldo.

The Sunday section will now include 23 comics: Baby Blues, Baldo, Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Born Loser, Crabgrass, Crankshaft, Dennis the Menace, Family Circus, For Better or Worse, Foxtrot, Frank & Ernest, Garfield, Hagar, Jump Start, Luann, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Peanuts, Pearls Before Swine, Pickles, Ziggy and Zits.

All the print comics in the Statesman Journal will continue to appear in our eNewspaper, which you can access by logging into your account at StatesmanJournal.com. Readers can also find even more at statesmanjournal.com/comics.

We hope you enjoy our new lineup of comics, and we thank you for your support of local journalism through your readership and subscription.
