Familiar name in Rockford Italian dining readies to open a second location

ROCKFORD — The owners of an Italian restaurant on the city’s northeast side are adding a second location.

Phillip and Brieanna Salamone plan to launch Salamone’s on State, 2219 E. State St., in 2023.

Plans call for a full sit-down restaurant with a bar and an outdoor seating area.

“They’ll be investing over a million dollars in this location between the remodel and redoing the parking lot,” said Rockford Zoning and Planning Manager Scott Capovilla. “Their plans are really nice.”

The nearly 5,100 square foot storefront, which the Salamone’s purchased in January, was built in 1935 and most recently housed Illinois Decorator Center.

The city’s Liquor & Tobacco Advisory Board is recommending the city approve the couple’s request for a liquor license for the establishment. The board is recommending the city deny a request for video gaming terminals at the site.

The City Council Code & Regulation Committee was set to consider Salamone's request at its meeting this week.

Phillip and Brieanna Salamone own Salamone’s North, 2583 N. Mulford Road, which opened in 2017.

Calls to Salamone's owners were not returned.
