Family of 24-year-old killed by alleged drunk driver speaks out

The family of a young man, who was killed by an alleged drunk driver is speaking out.

Channel 2′s Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell was in Mableton, where the crash happened earlier this month.

A section of Veterans Memorial Highway is filled with painful memories for the victim’s family because that is where their son, Stacey Miles Davis,24, of Lawrenceville, died.

The family says their son would still be with them if a driver chose not to drink and drive the night he was killed.

On Mar. 17, Davis was driving west on Veterans Memorial Highway around 11:18 p.m. on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, with his girlfriend, Mya Smith,23, according to police.

Police said Donald Bryan, 42, of Mableton, was driving his 2020 Ford F-150 east on Veterans Memorial Highway when he attempted to turn left onto Cooper Lake Road.

Officers said when Bryan turned left, he turned into the motorcycle’s path. The motorcycle collided with the passenger-side rear of the Ford.

“To take someone’s loved one is the most selfish thing in the world. I’ll never understand it, never,” said Teshundra Davis who is Stacey’s mother.

The Davis family is taking it one day at a time as they try to process their painful reality.

“His birthday is Monday, he would’ve been 25. We are just trying to get through, that’s all,” said Teshundra Davis.

The family is using all of the strength they have left to send a message to drivers about the dangers of drinking and driving.

“Before you get behind the wheel before, before you take that drink think about the other people and their lives and their loved ones,” said Teshundra Davis.

Stacey Davis was a son, a brother, and an uncle. He loved spending time with his nephew, playing his guitar, riding his motorcycle, and helping his family’s cleaning business.

“Stacey was very patient, he was very caring. He was always protected. He said I love y’all, went around the curb and that’s the last time I saw my son. He was moving back to Houston the next morning, he had a flight for 6:30 a.m. the next morning to go back to Houston to stay because that’s where the whole family is,” said Teshundra Davis.

Police arrested and charged Bryan at the scene of the crash. According to the arrest warrant, Bryan told police he had four beers before he got behind the wheel on the night of the crash.

“I don’t care if it was one beer. One drink. Anything can impair you,” said Teshundra Davis.

A GoFundMe was created to help the family with funeral expenses. The family recently held a funeral and said they will use additional money that is raised for a foundation they want to create to honor Stacey’s life. They hope to use the foundation to help people who are in need, during the holidays.

“We thought of something called ‘Meals for Miles’ because his middle name is Miles,” said Teshundra Davis.
