A Family Affair! Will Smith Surprises Fans at Coachella by Joining Son Jaden Smith's Set

Like father, like son!

Will Smith surprised fans at Jaden Smith‘s Coachella performance on Friday night, joining his 20-year-old son onstage for a performance of Jaden’s song “Icon.”

Jaden filmed a portion of his dad’s cameo while onstage, as Will, 50, rapped for the camera. The Coachella crowd went wild as the elder Smith showed off his musical chops. Later, both father and son shared the same video to their Instagram accounts.

“Done Did ‘dat!” the Bad Boys star captioned the video, adding the hashtag #coachella. Meanwhile, Jaden wrote: “I Love You Coachella.”

For the performance, Will wore a black T-shirt from his son’s merch line paired with grey joggers and white sneakers.

This isn’t the first time the younger Smith made this year’s Coachella a family affair.

During his performance in the first weekend of the music festival, his sister Willow Smith made a surprise appearance onstage, along with his old friend Jordyn Woods.

Though Woods’ appearance was brief, the model danced with her arms in the air as Jaden stood on top of a white Tesla that was part of his set. Willow, 18, then wowed the audience with an opening aerial stunt before joining Woods and Jaden next to the Tesla.

In 2018, Will starred in a hilarious parody of the music video for “Icon” to celebrate his son’s music hitting 100 million streams on Spotify.

The actor performed in the shot-for-shot recreation in February 2018, emulating his son right down to the haircut, gold chains and clothing (although the actor opted for black slippers rather than Jaden’s white sneakers). There were a few other hilarious dad tweaks made, including Will’s grill falling out of his mouth and the star using a less flashy sports car.

“Congrats on 100,000,000 @Spotify streams, Jaden! @c.syresmith,” Will captioned the satire. “It is a delicious gift to a parent to admire his children. Keep Doin’ You!”

The Grammy-winning rapper and actor has been indulging in the musical side of his career recently. Earlier this month, Will said he wanted to join Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus‘ remix of the hit viral song “Old Town Road.”

Will posted his own take on the “Old Town Road” memes, sharing the music video to his 1999 rap song “Wild Wild West” set to Cyrus and Lil Nas X’s remix.

“Y’all Call me when you’re ready to shoot the video,” Will wrote, tagging Cyrus and Lil Nas X.

The actor will also be seen singing and rapping in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin, where he plays the Genie.

In a trailer released in March, fans even get to hear part of Genie’s signature song “Friend Like Me.”
