All in the family: Beaubien in Fair's demo derby for first time since cancer diagnosis
It was quite the night for Craig Beaubien.
Despite not being able to drive, Craig still was able to participate in the Monroe County Fair Demolition Derby Tuesday night.
He took his car into the Best of Show competition before the 6 p.m. race.

Craig's "Derby Family" made it happen.
Brad Beaubien of Carleton organized the effort to bring joy to his brother, Craig, who was diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer three years ago.
Craig, 42, started competing in the Monroe County Fair Demolition Derby when he was 18 years old. The last time was 2019.
“We wanted to surprise Craig with a car this year," Brad said. "But as his condition has good days and bad days we decided to tell him."

Brad, who also has competed in the derby 12-15 times himself, and their derby buddies worked on a 2007 Crown Victoria which was painted by a friend with cartoon characters from Minions, Sing II, Paw Patrol, Spiderman, Thor, and more.
“We wanted Craig to participate in the Best of Show,” Brad said.
Craig was hoping to compete, but his condition made driving in derby difficult. He was happy to still be a part of the show in some way.
“I was planning on it,” Craig said. “Going to drop the hammer down like Thor, but unfortunately that did not happen."

Craig was taken to the hospital this past week. He was cleared to go to the derby, but this coming week he will have to go under for heart surgery.
“We are a Derby Family," Brad said. "We all help each other."
