Family Believes Hoffman Estates Soccer Star Died From COVID-19

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — Indiana University Men's Soccer legend and Hoffman Estates High School graduate Ken Snow died Sunday at the age of 50 in Port Huron, Michigan, from what his family members believe was the coronavirus, according to the Daily Herald. Indiana University's most highly decorated athlete, Snow lived a mostly healthy life until recently, when he wasn't feeling over the last few months, according to his family, the Daily Herald reported. His sister, Stephanie Snow, told the news source her brother's fear of being diagnosed with the coronavirus and being put on a ventilator kept him away from the doctor and being tested.

Snow died just two days before his 51st birthday, while visiting his children on Father's Day. According to the Daily Herald, Snow was staying in a hotel instead of the family house, and he died in his hotel room.

According to an obituary posted by Smith Family Funeral Home, Snow lived in Fishers, Indiana, and was born in Arlington Heights. During's Snows time at Indiana University (1987-1990), he was the only player to have earned four first-team All-American selections, and two National Player of the Year Awards. He went on to play eight seasons of professional indoor soccer, and continued his love for soccer through Ken Snow Goal Scoring Camps.

Snow's true passion in life was found within his daughter Lauren, son Matthew, and stepdaughter Ashley, the obituary reads.

"He would tell you his greatest achievement in life was his daughter Lauren, words would never be able to describe the pride in his eyes while watching her continue on the legacy, playing D1 soccer," the obituary states.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, of the 6,847 coronavirus deaths reported in Illinois through Friday, nearly 70 percent of deaths have been among patients age 70 and older.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Smith Family Funeral Home-Hancock Street from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 3:30 p.m.
