HOLLAND TWP. — The former Huntington Bank headquarters in Holland has been officially purchased by Family Church for $7 million.

The three-story building at 10717 Adams St. in Holland Township, constructed in 1992, sits on 41.7 acres of land. Family Church intends to use the space for fellowship, worship and education, according to a statement from real estate firm JLL.

Family Church shared plans with the Holland Township Planning Commission to convert the 132,127-square-foot bank headquarters into its third location in West Michigan in May. The current space holds a fitness center, cafeteria, conference rooms, security offices and a loading dock — but Family Church intends to use the main floor as fellowship and sanctuary worship space and the upper floor as education space.

Plans for the lower floor remain undetermined, but the church is considering daycare and preschool space.

“We’re thrilled to be opening a third location at this building, where we have the flexibility to make it exactly what we want and need,” lead pastor Adam Grill said in a statement. “This is an incredible opportunity to support our growth and continue to be of service to the West Michigan community. We are ready for this next step in our journey and are prepared to create a welcoming and enticing space for everyone.”

Family Church got its start in Zeeland, where another church had recently been closed by the Reformed Church in America.

"We bought the building from them," Grill told The Sentinel in May. "Then, during the middle of the pandemic, we were growing and growing and growing.

"Another local church, Ebenezer Reformed in Holland — which is a historic landmark — approached us. They were starting to shrink and they weren't confident they'd survive much longer. Over the course of about a year, we were gifted that church, which was an amazing thing. We started services there last September."

With congregations at both locations steadily growing, Grill said, it was clear a third location was badly needed.

"We knew we needed to find another church that needed our help, or else we needed to find a building," he said. "We came across this building and decided to pursue it. When I first moved here, I prayed over this building for many years, that God would make it a church — because, to me, it already looks like one."
