Family Day Open House, Memorial Day parade on tap for weekend

Central Ohio Coon Hunters is hosting its annual Family Day Open House from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at 6995 Coonpath Road, NE, Carroll.

Guests are invited to explore the club’s 54 acres of woods and pond. Guests may bring their fishing rods and tackle to fish in the “no-licensed required pond” under “catch and release."

The club will supply the bait. Guests may also shoot on the club’s archery and rifle ranges using the club’s bows and arrows and its rifles and ammunition. Range Safety Officers will instruct shooters on range safety. The club will also have hotdogs and chips for its guests.

All activities are free with funding being provided through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Conservation Club grant program. Guests will be asked to complete a waiver to participate.

Memorial Day closures

Most government offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The Wagnalls Memorial will be open for holiday festivities including a 10 a.m. parade, a cruise-in, The post offices in Canal Winchester, Carroll, and Lithopolis will be closed as will Bloom Township, Canal Winchester, Carroll, and Lithopolis. Municipal offices will be closed as well.

Memorial Day parade

The Memorial Day parade will be held along Columbus Street in Lithopolis at 10 a.m. on Monday. The grand marshal will be Tadd Long who is a life long resident of Lithopolis. He is the son of Donald Long and Susan Souder (Storts).

Long graduated from Bloom -Carroll High School in 1986. He served our country in military service from March 1984-May of 2020. He joined the Army Reserve March 29, 1985. He attended Basic Combat Training, Ft. Dix, NJ, between junior and senior years of high school. After graduating high school he reported to Fort Belvoir, VA for Advanced Individual Training (AIT) to become a Special Utilities Equipment Repairer. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant with over 35 years of service.

Long was deployed with the 758th Maintenance Company for Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, along with his brother Brett. from September 1990-May 1991.

Long was deployed as part of the Defense Logistics Agency’s Army Reserve Element (DLA-ARE) April 2010 – February 2011, He served in Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn.

Farmers Market
