Family Dollar recalls Advil products due to improper storage temperatures

If you've recently purchased any Advil products from Family Dollar, you may need to return them following a product recall.

Family Dollar is initiating a voluntary recall of several varieties of Advil for being stored at improper temperatures, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Advil is a common brand name of ibuprofen. According to the National Library of Medicine, ibuprofen, cannot be stored in excessive heat or humidity. Rather, it should be stored at a controlled room temperature, which falls between 68 and 77 degrees. Storing your medicines properly can help to ensure they work as they should as well as prevent poisoning accidents.

The voluntary product recall was for products stored and shipped to certain stores on or around June 1, 2022, through March 31, 2023. Family Dollar has notified its affected stores asking them to check their stock immediately, quarantine, and discontinue the sale of any affected product.

Products covered by this recall are:

  1. Advil 200 mg tablet 100ct - SKU 0901458

  2. Advil 200 mg Caplet 24ct - SKU 0901839

  3. Advil Dual Action 36ct caplet - SKU 0902867

  4. Advil Tablet 500ct - SKU 0913023

  5. Advil Liquid Gel 400ct - SKU 0916071

  6. Advil Tablet 6ct - SKU 0999259

  7. Advil Liqui Gel Minis 20ct - SKU 0999841

Recently, the FDA alerted the public to potentially contaminated products from Family Dollar stores in six states including Louisiana. The impacted products originated from the company’s distribution facility in West Memphis, Arkansas, where an FDA inspection which concluded on Feb. 11, 2022, found unsanitary conditions, including rodent feces and urine, evidence of gnawing, nesting and rodent odors throughout the facility, dead birds and bird droppings that could cause many of the products to become contaminated.

Family Dollar states no consumer complaints or reports of illness related to this recall of certain over-the-counter drug products have been reported. It is important to contact your physician or healthcare provider if you've experienced any problems.
