Family of four found dead in overturned car in Idaho river

A Washington state family of four was found dead in an overturned car in an Idaho river.

The family, who was traveling from Spokane, Wash., had been reported missing June 10 when they did not arrive at their destination. Their last known location was the top of the White Bird grade, a historic mountain highway, the Idaho County Coroner said in a Facebook post.

Later Saturday, a fisherman reported finding a flipped car in the Salmon River, north of Riggins, about 150 miles north of Boise.

“Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho State Police, the Riggins Ambulance and Dive Team, and the Idaho Transportation Department responded to assist,” officials said. “It was confirmed this was the missing family and their vehicle. All occupants succumbed to their injuries.”

The family was identified as 36-year-old Calvin “CJ” Miller and his three children: 17-year-old Dakota, 10-year-old Jack and 8-year-old Delihia.

“Our hearts are broken for this family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time,” the coroner’s office said.

Miller was memorialized by his employer in a Facebook post Monday.

“Words cannot describe the sadness we have writing this post,” Dee’s Dog Grooming wrote. “Calvin was such a strong presence in our Dee’s family, always ready with a joke or dad advice ... He was a devoted father who fiercely loved his family. Our shop will not be the same without him.

“They will all sorely be missed,” the post said.

Amber Weber, the children’s mother and Miller’s partner, was not on the road trip.
