Family of four hospitalized after Pensacola house fire early Friday

Two adults and two children were hospitalized Friday after an early morning fire destroyed much of their home.

Pensacola firefighters and police officers responded to a house fire in the 7600 block of Tippin Avenue around 5:45 a.m. and found "heavy smoke and flames" coming from the residence and began "quickly jumping into action to rescue the occupants," according to a city news release.

"Firefighters identified the location of the occupants and entered the home through a window to begin search and rescue, removing all four victims from the home with the assistance of PPD."

First responders from PFD, PPD and Escambia County EMS provided medical assistance to the four victims before they were transported to a local hospital.

The city says there "was severe fire damage throughout the home," and the Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosive Investigations was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

"This was an incredibly difficult fire response, and I am so proud of our PFD team for their rapid response time and quick action to perform lifesaving rescues in extremely dangerous fire conditions," said Pensacola Fire Chief Ginny Cranor. "They demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism, employing aggressive firefighting tactics and strategies to rescue these citizens in their time of need."
