A 66-year-old Waipahu resident in Hawaii, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers said the shooting at the mall’s parking garage happened at about 1:30 p.m.

Clarice Yamaguchi was exiting her vehicle when she and her husband were approached by the suspect, according to Hawaii News Now. The police reported that witnesses said a man stepped out of a car, approached Yamaguchi and tried to rob her before shooting her.

Jesani Carter and Jordan Ruby, both age 20, have been arrested by police in connection with the shooting at the mall as well as another shooting at Palace Station Hotel and Casino also on New Year’s Eve, according to Fox 5 Vegas.

“My heart hurts so much. My life will never be the same,” Yamaguchi’s daughter Cheryl Harimoto wrote to Hawaii News Now.

“She was not only my mom but also my best friend,” she added. “I miss her so much. We all do. She was loved by so many people.”

Harimoto said she has received overwhelming support from those in Hawaii and Las Vegas.

“We appreciate everybody’s prayers, we feel the love,” she said.

Although Harimoto says her mom would not have liked any of this attention, she said her mother would be “the first one to help” if someone else was in her situation.

“I want to fight for her,” Harimoto said. “I will do whatever I can to fight for her.”

In a post on Facebook, Carrie AuYoung remembered her as “the sweetest wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and co-worker to everyone who knew her.”

The family wants to ask the judge in for her case to not give the suspects bail. They ask supporters to assist them in sending emails to justiceforclarice@gmail.com by Friday.
