Family of 'Nightbirde' to release new music from the late Zanesville singer and AGT star
New music from Jane Marczewski, the late singer from Zanesville who performed as "Nightbirde" and gained fame on "America's Got Talent," will be released Monday.
The release, announced by her family this week on social media, will mark the first new music from Marczewski — who battled cancer for several years and died in February — since April, when the single "Brave" came out.
What is Nightbirde famous for?
It's been a little more than one year since Marczewski performed her original song "It's OK," on the hit NBC show "America's Got Talent."
Visibly moved, AGT judge Simon Cowell awarded Marczewski the "Golden Buzzer," sending her to the contest's final round. But Marczewski later dropped out of the televised competition when her health took a turn for the worse.
When was Nightbirde first diagnosed with cancer?
Marczewski was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. Three years later, she learned the disease had metastasized to her liver, lungs, spine and lymph nodes.
But despite the grim prognosis, Marczewski didn't let cancer define her, according to her sister, Katelyn.
"She said this all the time: 'Life is both beautiful and very sad.' Those two can go together at the same time," Katelyn previously told the Dispatch. "Life sucks sometimes. But that doesn't mean that there aren't good things that are also happening and that doesn't mean that good things aren't coming."
Marczewski's written work may soon be published
Marczewski became an overnight sensation soon after appearing on AGT, and endeared herself to millions for chronicling her struggle with cancer on social media. Her song "It's OK" charted No. 1 on iTunes with 39 million views on YouTube.
Her family has said on social media that it wants to publish a book of Marczewski's poems.
The announcement of new music was accompanied by an excerpt from Marczewski's original poem "God on the bathroom floor."
"I am God’s downstairs neighbor, banging on the ceiling with a broomstick," the excerpt reads. "I show up at His door every day. Sometimes with songs, sometimes with curses. Sometimes apologies, gifts, questions, demands. Sometimes I use my key under the mat to let myself in. Other times, I sulk outside until He opens the door to me Himself."
