Family-owned popcorn company coming to Grand Rapids

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A family-owned business is planning to pop up in Grand Rapids at a new second location.

Robinson’s Popcorn is currently located at the Holland Town Center. The business was started in 2018 when Benjamin Robinson and his family started going door-to-door asking the community for help.

“We made popcorn at home, but we didn’t even know how to use these machines until the day we opened,” Robinson said.

They were able to raise more than $10,000 and from there, the father said the business has continued to grow. Their popcorn is now being sold at J&H Family Stores and will be sold at Whitecaps games this upcoming season.

Robinson and his wife have four children and they all have a role in the shop, whether its mixing in one of their 70 different flavors or operating the cash register. Robinson said he enjoys working alongside his family.

“It helps us be parents at the same time as business partners with our children and just like this is pretty sweet, I love it a lot,” Robinson said.

From knowing nothing about how to professionally make popcorn to running a business with popcorn in more than 150 stores from Michigan to Kentucky, Robinson said the family’s faith and hard work helped them get to this point.

“We literally trust God, so we prayed about it. It laid in our heart, it was heavy and this is what God gave us and we just move forward,” Robinson said.

He is now looking forward to opening a location in his hometown.

“I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, my family’s there, my community loves me there and I can’t wait to have another store back home, so it’s pretty exciting. I’m pretty excited about it,” Robinson said.

The shop is scheduled to open in July and it will be located in the Breton Meadows Shopping Center.
