Family reunited with lost dog after three years

Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A dog who went missing from her owners' Arkansas home was reunited with her family three years later thanks to a microchip.

Rex and Britnee Smith said their two pit bulls, Jack and Jill, disappeared from their Little Rock back yard in July 2020.

The family searched the area, put up flyers and posted on social media, but there were no leads on the missing canines.

The Smiths eventually moved 300 miles away to McKinney, Texas, and never expected to see their pets again.

The couple said they were shocked in July when they received a call from Little Rock Animal Village with some unexpected news: Jill had been found.

The shelter said Jill was picked up as a stray and scanned for a microchip, which gave them Rex Smith's phone number.

"It's like she never left us," Britnee Smith told USA Today. "We picked up right off when she left three years ago. She came right into our arms."

The family said they are renewing their search for Jack in the hopes that he might be in the same neighborhood where Jill was picked up.

"We wish she could talk," Rex Smith said. "We have so many questions and we just want to ask her 'Take us from the beginning, what happened?'"
