Family safely escapes fire that destroyed Ruggles Township home

A fire late Friday destroyed a home along Ruggles Township Road 1101. The home was occupied, but the people got out safely.

The Troy Fire Department received a call at about 11:30 p.m. reporting a fire at a home.

The home was heavily involved in flames when firefighters arrived. Mutual aid was requested from Savannah and Nankin fire departments to take engines and tankers to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was a total loss. Occupants were assisted by the American Red Cross.

Occupants of the home were were the family of Wayne and Jessica Christopher. They have four children living at the home, ages 2, 10, 13 and 16, according to information on a community Facebook page.

Neighbors, friends and have started a donation drive for the family, accepting clothing, gas cards, gift cards, toys, coats, blankets, school supplies and more. Donations may be dropped off at the home of Wendy Spicer, 362 Township Road 1031 in Nova or the Ashland County Sheriffs Office.
