Family slams sibling for deliberately missing sister’s engagement: ‘You’re an adult’

A woman is fed up with her family pressuring her to fly home constantly.

She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum to weigh in. She moved away from her small town, which has infuriated her family. They see her as an “outsider” because she refuses to move back home, give up her career and become a stay-at-home mom.

Although it’s expensive to fly home, and she has already done so four times this year, her family is demanding she come home again. Her sister’s boyfriend plans to propose over Christmas.

“I communicated to her bf and my family that I would love to be there for them but it’s too big of a financial strain to make another cross country trip on short notice,” she explained.

However, her family keeps hounding her about coming and doesn’t believe she has a valid excuse.

Redditors didn’t think there was anything wrong with her choice.

“You’re an adult. You can visit as many times a year as you find reasonable,” a user said.

“They are all being unreasonable & selfish,” a person added.

“You have your own life; they don’t get to decide what you do and when,” someone wrote.
