Family of three displaced after two-alarm fire at Framingham apartment

FRAMINGHAM A family of three has been temporarily displaced after an electrical fire damaged a Temple Street apartment Tuesday night, authorities said.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire, at 14 Temple St. the Water View Village Apartments was an electrical device that overheated while being charged, Fire Chief Michael Dutcher said Wednesday.

The Fire Department received a 911 call at about 7:20 p.m. reporting the blaze at Apt. 3G in the building. When firefighters arrived, they were greeted by heavy smoke coming from the multifamily building.

The fire went to a second alarm, which brought a total of four fire engines, a ladder truck and several command staff to the scene. Firefighters from Ashland, Natick, Southborough, Sudbury and Wayland assisted at the scene, as did the Framingham Police Department and the Department of Public Works.

"An aggressive interior attack limited the fire damage to the original apartment," Dutcher said.

The residents of the affected unit two adults and a child were displaced, although neighboring residents were allowed to return to their apartments later on Tuesday night, the chief said.

Dutcher credited the residents for helping to prevent the fire from spreading.

"The residents of the apartment (that cuaght fire) closed their door, while escaping, keeping the smoke and heat minimal," he said.

Dutcher estimated the fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage. It's not known when the displaced residents will be able to return home.
