- The family of a dad and two kids killed in a Stanislaus County house fire say he tried to save those young boys right up to the end.

- CBS13's Marissa Perlman is live in Denair where this afternoon the community is coming together to rally for the family. Marissa.

MARISSA PERLMAN: Yeah, that's right. The community and the family are here this afternoon, coming together, having a car wash as you can imagine, to pay for three funerals. And they say, this afternoon, they're waiting to learn exactly what caused this tragic fire.

AMBER ORTEGA: If you knew him, he'd let you know he cared.

MARISSA PERLMAN: Amber Ortega says her younger brother 25-year-old Sergio Inostros was shielding eight-year-old Mason Morgado and three-year-old Bennett Inostros. Their bodies were found together, father lying over his son's.

AMBER ORTEGA: It's like his last act of love. I'm proud of my brother, he did what any father would do. That was his job in life, to take care of his kids to the very end and that's what he did.

MARISSA PERLMAN: Sergio was home with the boys who were asleep. Mason and Bennett's mom Megan, who Sergio was engaged to, was working less than a mile from the home. Just before 2:00, a fast moving fire took over the house. Fire crews from Denair immediately learned three people were trapped inside. The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit says the flames were too intense to rescue them, with the roof collapsing.

AMBER ORTEGA: I'm glad that he went with his boys because that's what he would have wanted, and he would do it all over again.

MARISSA PERLMAN: Such a tragic story. Now, Sergio's mother reports seeing a legal fireworks in the area over her son's home, just about 45 minutes before that fire started. But again, the cause of this fire is still under investigation this afternoon.

- All right Merissa, thank you.
