This famous burger place named a sandwich after North Jersey Eats. Here's where to get it

How does a roast beef sandwich with fresh mozzarella and horseradish sauce on a fresh roll with butter-garlic sound to you?

To Stephen Chrisomalis of Steve's Burgers, it sounded like a new menu item: the North Jersey Eats Hungry Reporter.

And you can see him make it — and deliver it to us at our offices — when he does a takeover of our Instagram account, @northjerseyeats, on Tuesday, March 21. It'll be on his menu starting then, too.

"I wanted to show appreciation for the news editors and reporters and everyone behind the scenes who make everything happen on a daily basis," he said.

Here's what went down: Chrisomalis — who has locations in Garfield and North Bergen — has always been a big supporter of the journalism we do at NorthJersey.com and in (201) Magazine. One day, in a conversation with me, the features editor and (201) editor-in-chief, he offered to show that support on his menu.

Voila! The North Jersey Eats Hungry Reporter sandwich was born.

And boy, will you not be hungry after ordering it. The roast beef is seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary and the special seasoning from his award-winning burgers, then seared on all sides before being slow roasted in the oven.

It's then sliced and layered with fresh mozzarella onto a fresh roll with butter-garlic sauce, and drizzled with his housemade horseradish sauce. Delicious.

Chrisomalis will give a cooking demonstration when he does the takeover, as well as deliver it to us (not as a freebie, we always pay). He'll also take our Instagram followers along on his day, working at his three locations, and introducing to his other menu items, as well as his customers.

Chrisomalis said he wanted to name it after our food team to give us "a little recognition for reviewing not just me, but all the family-owned, local businesses, the close-to-home and the mom-and-pop shops. You're always very supportive."

And, he said, "a good hot roast beef sandwich is pretty hard to find."
