Famous New Haven pizzeria looking to expand in Hartford area

New Haven-style pizza could be coming to Farmington.

Sally’s Apizza, famous for its thin-crust, coal-fired slices, is looking to open a new location inside Westfarms mall. The restaurant applied for a permit with the town last month, according to the Farmington Building Department. The application was received on Oct. 20 but the town has not issued a permit yet.

The famous New Haven pizzeria would be located inside Jordan’s Furniture at 400 Westfarms Mall. Jordan’s has transformed the former Lord & Taylor location into a 120,000 square-foot store with a furniture and mattress showroom. The new store will feature a 5,000 square-foot entertainment area with food and drinks. The Lord &Taylor store, a former anchor of the mall, opened in 1980 and was shuttered in late 2020 during the pandemic when the mall was closed down. The Jordan’s location, its ninth overall store, is planning to open next month just before the holiday season, according to the mall.

Sally’s Apizza, with its original Wooster St. location in New Haven, has also expanded with stores in Stamford and Fairfield in recent years. Earlier this year, the restaurant announced new locations in Massachusetts. However, this would mark the first location for the famous pizza restaurant in the Greater Hartford area. Sally’s, a nationally recognized pizzeria, has been featured in numerous media, including documentaries and on the Food Network.

Sally’s Apizza did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and spokespeople for both Westfarms and Jordan’s Furniture declined to comment.
