FAMU women's basketball game canceled, men's game moved up an hour Saturday

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact college athletics.

Saturday's women's basketball game between FAMU and Alcorn State at the Lawson Center has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Alcorn State program.

The men's game between FAMU and Alcorn State has been moved from 4 to 3 p.m. at the Lawson Center.

The Ratters return home for an important two-game swing that could shuffle the SWAC standings.

FAMU (3-2 SWAC, 5-11 overall) faces conference co-leader Alcorn State (4-1, 5-12) Saturday, followed by a showdown against Jackson State (2-3, 4-12) Monday at 7:30 p.m.

FAMU boasts a conference-best three-game win streak heading into the homestand following victories over Grambling State (75-66), Arkansas Pine-Bluff (71-66) and Mississippi Valley State (78-70).

Southern (4-1, 9-8) and Alcorn State enter the weekend tied atop the league standings. Both teams suffered their first league defeats last week. Southern which upended the Rattlers earlier this month, is also the lone SWAC team with an overall winning record.

FAMU's MJ Randolph leads the conference in scoring at 20.6 points per game.

The FAMU women's team (2-3 SWAC, 2-14 overall) looks to snap a two-game losing streak Monday against Jackson State (7-6) at 5:30 p.m.

SWAC honors

FAMU's Dylan Horton and MJ Randolph earn SWAC Player of the Week honors in women's and men's basketball for the second straight week.

Horton averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 43-percent from the field during FAMU's last two outings. Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, she scored 22 points and collected five rebounds. Horton scored 26 points versus Mississippi Valley State while tallying five rebounds and two assists. She currently leads the conference in scoring at 25.4 points per game.

This is Horton's third SWAC Player of the Week honor.

Randolph had another stellar week averaging 23.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in the Rattlers victories at Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State. His two 20-point games this past week are his fourth straight and put him at ten on the season.

This is Randolph's fourth SWAC Player of the Week honor.

NBA TV

FAMU men's and women's basketball will be on national television next month, when the Rattlers host Texas Southern on NBA TV.

Pregame, halftime, and postgame studio coverage on Saturday, Feb. 5, will be led by Stephanie Ready starting at 1:30 p.m., with analysts Renee Montgomery and Sam Mitchell.

FAMU will host Texas Southern on Saturday, Feb. 5, with the women's game set to tip-off at 2 p.m. and the men's game at 4:30 p.m.
