Starting June 3, Gloria Walker will join the Rattler community after Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson recently announced her as the next chief financial officer (CFO) and vice president for finance and administration.

Walker has been serving at the University of New Orleans as chief financial officer and vice president for business affairs for over two years.

“FAMU is on the rise,” Robinson said in a news release. “As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, Dr. Walker will help keep the university on this positive trajectory.”

Since July 2021, Rebecca Brown has filled the interim position of CFO and vice president for finance and administration, with experience in many senior roles during her 23-year tenure with FAMU.

Walker’s background: 'Impressive credentials'

Walker attended the University of Houston where she earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1978, the University of St. Thomas where she earned a master’s degree in finance in 2008 and later, Northeastern University, where she earned her doctoral degree in higher education administration in 2014.

As Walker gets ready to take on the role of CFO, Robinson highlighted how she will be coming with "impressive credentials" that contribute to making her well-qualified for the job. She has more than 20 years of experience in finance and executive leadership.

As a certified public accountant, Walker’s titles during her time serving at several colleges and universities range from being South Florida State College's vice president for financial services to Texas Southern University's chief operating officer and executive vice president.

“I am about students being successful," Walker said in a prepared statement. "If students are successful and have a great experience with the university, then the finances will grow. The university will attract more students and will increase its alumni and philanthropic giving.”

As someone committed to student success, Walker has admired FAMU’s similar commitment, which is what she said makes the university the best place for her to continue her career.

Walker added, “FAMU has been on my bucket list for a while.”
