FAMU softball rallies for walk-off win over Mercer

The Florida A&M Rattlers rallied to score one in the seventh inning and walked it off on a senior Brianne Hill walk from freshman Grace Taylor that scored freshman Neriah Lee to pick up the 3-2 win over the Mercer Bears Wednesday.

Sophomore Lauryn Peppers (3-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for FAMU (12-14, 5-4 SWAC). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing four walks and striking out eight.

Offensively, the Rattlers were led by senior Melkayla Irvis, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Senior Nyah Morgan put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior Jane'a Mobley also helped out for FAMU, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

The Rattlers were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Morgan put FAMU on the board with a one-out solo home run off senior Riley Hickok.

The Rattlers kept the deficit at 2-1 before tying the score in the fifth. FAMU scored a run on an RBI triple off the bat of Irvis, scoring Lee, which evened the score at 2-2.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when FAMU walked it off on a Hill walk from Taylor that scored Lee.
