Fan of Hagar the Horrible? You'll find it in our comics soon

Readers of The Herald-Mail love their comics.

Whether it's Peanuts, For Better or for Worse, or my favorite, Pearls before Swine, reading the funnies is a Sunday tradition in many households across the Tri-State area.

To better serve readers, many USA TODAY Network newspapers across the country will have a redesigned comics section starting in October, and that includes The Herald-Mail.

After surveying and listening to our loyal readers, we will refresh our comics offering with an updated package that incorporates beloved favorites.

Comics have historically evolved to reflect the culture and tastes of the times, and that's what motivated this update. We want to best serve our audience.

The total number of comics will be close to the same, with several new titles including Non Sequitur, Ziggy and Hagar the Horrible.

Monday through Saturday, these are the strips you'll find: Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crabgrass.

On Sunday, these are the strips you'll find: Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Foxtrot, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crabgrass, Crankshaft, Luann, Baldo, Frank & Ernest, Born Loser, Close to Home, Argyle Sweater, Mother Goose, Rose is Rose, Wizard of Id, B.C.

While all print comics in the newspaper will also appear in The Herald-Mail's eNewspaper at www.heraldmailmedia.com, readers can check out heraldmailmedia.com/comics to view additional comics.

Before you ask, no, this change will not mean an increase in your subscription. In fact, the change will allow us to further invest in the local journalism on which our readers rely and trust.

With things moving quickly both here and across the globe, the comics section is more important than ever to let us laugh and escape, even for just a moment.

So, keep an eye out starting next month, and we'll see you in the funny papers.
