With temperatures warming up and spring underway, now is a great time to plan a glamping trip.

What is glamping exactly? It is a form of camping while not sacrificing the comforts of modern life. In many cases, glamping can be over-the-top glamorous. Other times, it's more like camping with a roof over your head. Here are our top five suggestions for where to glamp in Ohio. With an ideal location for kids and families, as well as one for couples and more, there is something for everyone.

1. Nomad Ridge, Cumberland

Imagine staying in a yurt at the Conservation Education Camp at the Columbus Zoo. The glamping yurt is outfitted with a comfortable bed, full bathroom and an outdoor patio where you can watch the sun go down and watch giraffes, hawks and rhinos wander their pasture area.

These beautifully designed yurts sit on platforms and have bamboo floors, large, screened windows and Wi-Fi. There are three types available – the Woodland, Premium and Grand. The Grand yurt is the most luxurious, with the most space along with a lounge area and two-person shower. Overnight guests can expect an open-air safari tour, dinner and breakfast. This is one adventure not to miss.

2. The Mohicans Treehouse Resort, Glenmont

This ultimate luxury resort, best known as a wedding destination, offers cabins, treehouses and large homes. For your adventure, try staying in one of their treehouses, which as the name implies, is nestled among the trees and suspended off the ground. Whether you choose a loft or a one-bedroom, each offers ample space for lounging and relaxing.

The treehouses have bathrooms, some with outdoor showers, along with kitchens, and a dining area. Sit in the cozy nook area with a good book, or have breakfast on your patio as you overlook the forest. Best of all, there is heat and air conditioning for your comfort. The Mohicans have been featured on the Discovery Channel’s Treehouse Masters, highlighting their property.

3. Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, North Lawrence

This is a great experience for kids. Situated in an amusement park-like setting, Clay's Resort Jellystone Park provides endless hours of fun and entertainment. There is a huge water playground, swimming pool, mini golf course, sports courts, a lake and much more. Your little ones will have fun discovering the many things to do along with meeting other kids.

There are several ways to stay at the park. From RV parks and tent camping to cabins, the best way to glamp, in my opinion, is to stay in the cute cabins. Cabins range in size from cozy to large enough to fit larger families. They all include a full kitchen, bathrooms, air conditioning and outdoor grills and picnic areas. About a 50-minute drive from Cleveland, this makes for a fun and easy getaway for the entire family.

4. Cherry Ridge Retreat – Hocking Hills Luxury Cabins, New Plymouth

Look no further than the Still Waters cabin at the Cherry Ridge Retreat for a romantic escape. The snug and charming cabin overlooks a pond with an indoor fireplace where couples can snuggle up. The private hot tub rests under a beautiful gazebo. With all the comforts away from home, this accommodation boasts a full kitchen and central air conditioning.

The property is in the Hocking Hills area of southern Ohio where there are plenty of outdoor activities as the weather warms up. Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve is situated in Hocking Hills State Park and has many hiking trails and a beautiful waterfall. The rim trail is more challenging while the lower trail provides a more moderate experience. Visit the Hocking Hills Winery for a tasting experience. This is a spectacular area for exploring and spending couple time.

5. Creekside Cabins, Rockbridge

Nestled within forested woodlands, Creek's Crossing Cabins offers three spacious cabins that are the perfect setup for a glamping vacation. Comfortable and cozy, they have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Fully equipped with modern kitchen appliances, pots and pans and a large dining area, guests can pick up their groceries on the way in and not have to leave. Cabins have heating and air conditioning as well as televisions and jacuzzi tubs. Each unit has outdoor seating, fire pits and a charcoal grill.

The area is lovely with access to Sheick Hollow State Nature Preserves, 130 acres of forested land with sandstone cliffs, wildlife and trails to explore. Also nearby is access to rock climbing, zip-lining and river kayaking tours as well as fishing. The small, charming downtown has a mix of small boutiques to stock up on souvenirs as well as wineries and farm-to-table restaurants.
