Fans Are 'Disgusted' After Carrie Underwood Didn't Win Entertainer of the Year at the CMAs

From Country Living

  • Garth Brooks won the 2019 CMAs Entertainer of the Year Award.

  • To put it plainly, fans are upset that Carrie Underwood didn't win.

Look, Garth Brooks is great. But country music fans are downright outraged that he beat out Carrie Underwood for Entertainer of the Year at the 2019 CMAs.

Carrie was the only woman nominated in the category, and was up against Garth, Keith Urban, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton. Many had hedged their bets on Carrie—including Miranda Lambert—considering she released her Cry Pretty album and has been on the Cry Pretty 360 tour all while managing a fitness brand, raising two babies, and writing a new book. But who’s keeping track?

The upset also comes during a year when the CMAs was all about celebrating women. In fact, Brad Paisley didn’t host for the first time in over a decade so that Carrie, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton could head up the night.

All of that to say, viewers at home are not thrilled.

“This is such a slap in the face. Not only to Carrie, but to the women of country music in general,” one person wrote. “So much for celebrating women tonight but you’re going to continue giving these awards to mediocre men.”

Others said they were “disappointed” and “angry” that the CMAs wasn’t showing Carrie respect. “I am ANGRY. No shame to Garth, but CARRIE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO WIN THAT AWARD.”

And don’t even get people started about the fact that Garth didn’t mention Carrie in his speech, despite calling out other performers like Kelsea Ballerini and Luke Combs.

Anyways, we had all previously agreed to “riot at dawn” so we’ll see you there?
