Fans showed up hungry and thirsty for Turn Back the Clock Night: Norfolk Tides sold more than 12,000 hot dogs, 6,000 sodas.

The Norfolk Tides’ annual Turn Back the Clock Night didn’t draw the season’s largest crowd, but the fans who showed up at Harbor Park on Tuesday came hungry.

The promotion — hot dogs, sodas and popcorn all sold for 50 cents each — drew an announced crowd of 8,287, and by the end of the night 12,742 hot dogs, 6,468 sodas, and 4,123 popcorn containers were sold, the Tides said Wednesday.

Norfolk lost 2-1 to the Worcester WooSox on Tuesday night in front of Harbor Park’s third-largest crowd this season. The Tides drew bigger crowds on Saturay nights earlier this season with postgame fireworks: June 4 (12,307) and June 18 (8,595). But on those nights a paltry 1,489 and 1,193 hot dogs were sold, respectively.

The Tides are home through Sunday.

Didn’t make the Tuesday’s smorgasbord? No worries. The Tides’ will hold another Turn Back the Clock night Aug. 30 against the Lehigh Valley, um, IronPigs.
