A new Pop Smoke mural has gone viral because it’s received backlash from fans due to its depiction of the rapper.

In February 2020, the New York rapper died from three gunshot wounds following a party at a Los Angeles property he rented while in town for work. He was only 20 years old. Since his unfortunate death, many artists have painted murals to honor the “Dior” artist. Pictures of a new mural done by an unknown artist circulated quickly online because Pop Smoke fans say it doesn’t resemble the Brooklyn, New York, native.

The mural shows Pop Smoke posing in a turquoise hoodie with big, piercing, light brown eyes. He’s holding his chin with one hand that has what looks like a rose tattoo and is wearing an empty-faced watch.

The reveal of the mural comes two weeks after the sentencing of one of the four young men involved in his killing. As Blavity reported, the judge presiding over the case sentenced the unnamed 20-year-old, a teen at the time of the crime, to serve four years in juvenile detention on April 6. The other three participants were also teens when the deadly robbery occurred.

“Bro has got a Snapchat filter on we can do better than this,” one fan commented.

“They did him wrong, arrest who ever did this,” another said.

“They started painting durk then remembered they needed to paint pop,” a fan remarked.
