SCOTT PIANOWSKI: Scott Pianowski here. It's late June. You need some fantasy TLC. Here are two players to consider for immediate pickup.
Now, Brandon Belt-- been around for a while. We've often wondered what kind of player would he be if he left the Giants, because that park really hurts left-handed power. Well, Belt's still a member of the Giants.
And maybe that's a good thing. They've closed the archways the last couple of seasons. Ball really jumping to right field. The Giants are in contention for a playoff spot. They have a top 10 offense.
And Belt, since that oblique injury-- he's come back, hitting over .400 with three home runs. Qualifies for first base and outfield in Yahoo format and, last check, still available in over 60% of Yahoo leagues. I would play him in shallow, medium, deep-- doesn't really matter. I want Brandon Belt in my lineup, and I want to get exposure to this Giants offense.
Now, Daulton Varsho-- not going to quote you his major league numbers. He hasn't done much in his limited time with Arizona. But this guy was crushing the ball in Triple-A, slugging over .700, nine home runs in 18 games.
He's backup-- catcher is a wasteland in fantasy. And with Carson Kelly busting his wrist, Varsho's going to get a chance to play. Ignore what he's done at the major league level. He's always been a highly ranked prospect, just shy of his 25th birthday in two catcher formats.
You got to gobble him up right now. But even in one-catcher formats, I think Varsho has a chance to get some traction. And he's rostered in fewer than 10% of Yahoo leagues, so widely available if you need some backstop help.
