Fantasy football: A look at the waiver wire for Week 13

Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is tackled by Lions defenders in October. Mattison excelled the last time he faced the Lions and could have another big game if Dalvin Cook can't suit up in Week 13.

Sunday's games, in the world of fantasy football, provided a mixture of what you'd expect along with some surprises.

Typical solid performances by Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers were matched by good games by Mac Jones and Tyrod Taylor. The latter two aren't often in the QB1 conversation.

Rushers such as Leonard Fournette and Joe Mixon put up big games along with backs like Dontrel Hilliard and Javonte Williams.

Through the air, Davante Adams and Adam Thielen did what you'd expect, but receivers like Jaylen Waddle and Kendrick Bourne actually had the best games for wideouts.

NFL odds: Betting lines, spreads and over/unders

Even when the usual suspects excelled, it wasn't always how you'd expect. Deebo Samuel, for example, had a great day but caught just one pass for 12 yards. He rushed six times for 66 yards and scored twice on the ground, though. Unfortunately, he also suffered a groin injury, which may create opportunities for his teammates to contribute some fantasy points. Hello, Brandon Aiyuk fantasy managers.

Another injury of note came in that same game when Dalvin Cook suffered a dislocated shoulder. Elsewhere, news broke Monday that Christian McCaffrey is going to the IR once again.

A look at the waiver wire heading into Week 13:

Alexander Mattison, RB, Vikings: He could be the lead back against the Lions if Cook misses time. Mattison rushed seven times for 21 yards and scored against the 49ers. Twice this season he's carried the ball at least 25 times in relief of Cook. Mattison surpassed 100 yards and gained at least 40 through the air in both of those games. He amassed 153 total yards and scored against Detroit, Week 13's opponent, the last time he faced them in Week 5.

Jamaal Williams, RB, Lions: D'Andre Swift could miss some time with a shoulder injury, which would open things up for Williams, who rushed 15 times for 65 yards on Thanksgiving. Williams is a good receiver out of the backfield, too.

Tevin Coleman, RB, Jets: Lead backs are hard to come by this late in the season and Coleman is showing signs of life. He rushed 16 times for 67 yards and will remain the Jets' top rusher while Michael Carter is on IR.

Phillip Lindsay, RB, Dolphins: He's got a little bit of fantasy value now with the move to Miami. He rushed a season-high 12 times for 42 yards Sunday and has two good matchups coming up. Myles Gaskin is still getting more carries, but Lindsay could be decently productive if he continues to get opportunities.

Kendrick Bourne, WR, Patriots: Bourne has caught at least four passes in three straight games and has three touchdowns in that span. He scored twice and caught five passes for 61 yards against the Titans.

Matt Breida, RB, Bills: A healthy scratch for Zack Moss is bad news for the second-year back, but it's music to Breida's ears. He totaled 55 yards and scored in the win over the Saints on Thanksgiving. Breida's doing damage with his touches and is likely to get more.

Chuba Hubbard, RB, Panthers: Hubbard will play in place of an injured McCaffrey once again, and he did pretty well the last time he did that. He doesn’t top this waiver wire list due to the Panthers being on bye in Week 13.

Dontrell Hilliard, RB, Titans: He made the most of his opportunities and scored on a 68-yarder on the way to 131 yards on 12 carries Sunday. He's sharing time with D'Onta Foreman, but that big-play ability is an exciting prospect to have on your roster. You'll have to wait to fire him up, though, with Tennessee on bye in Week 13.

D'Onta Foreman, RB, Titans: With both Hilliard and Foreman topping 100 yards in Week 12, it's up to you to figure out which one will flourish the most from here on out. Foreman had more carries, 19, on his way to 109 yards Sunday.

DeSean Jackson, WR, Raiders: He's not a long-term solution but has a good matchup against Washington in Week 13. If you need someone for a spot start, you could do worse than the aging speedster.

Mac Jones, QB, Patriots: He would be a good streaming option for the first week of the fantasy playoffs, which begin for a lot of leagues in Week 15. He faces the Colts that week and they aren't good at limiting quarterbacks.

Dolphins D/ST: They're coming off a huge game in which they had five sacks and three interceptions and scored on the Panthers. They have a good matchup against the Giants in Week 13. New York scored just 13 points against the Eagles on Sunday.
