Farm Bill is ‘investment in rural America,’ U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson says at Ag Progress Days
Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson brought his listening sessions on the federal Farm Bill to Penn State’s Ag Progress Days on Wednesday. For over an hour, Thompson, alongside Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding and Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Dean Rick Roush, took questions from a crowded room of people.
Thompson, who chairs the House Committee on Agriculture, said they’re getting ready to rewrite the Farm Bill, which happens every five years. The “significant piece of legislation” includes 12 titles, Thompson said, and allocates $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
“It’s an investment in rural America and in the industry of agriculture. It’s $1.5 trillion over 10 years. And it’s everything from technology to nutrition and risk management, anything dealing with rural America — part of the Farm Bill,” Thompson said.
The majority of the funds, $1.1 trillion, will go to the nutrition title, Thompson said.
