Dreaming of warmer days and spring flowers?

Not so fast.

The Farmers' Almanac predicts "a soggy, shivery spring ahead" for much of the country, including northern Ohio.

Spring officially arrives at 5:24 p.m. March 20, but if the folks at the almanac are right it could be a tad bit late in arriving.

Wet and cold spring in northern Ohio

The almanac says it will likely be off to a wet and cold start with "spring taking its sweet time to arrive."

Ohio's weather lot is predicted to be cool and very stormy and western Ohio is on the edge of what the almanac says will be a severe weather zone this spring.

And that four-letter word − snow − will still be mentioned in forecasts in early April for the Great Lakes, according to the almanac.

National Weather Service's spring outlook

The National Weather Service has its own − albeit different − spring forecast.

Like the folks at the Farmers' Almanac, which has been creating its own homespun forecasts since 1818, the National Weather Service says it is very likely that Ohio will have a wetter-than-normal spring.

Snow showers in April bring about 2 inches on average.

But exactly what will be falling from the skies this spring in the eyes of the weather service?
