Farmers for Football fills Brodie Field

May 31—TIFTON — Brodie Field was filled and many, many youngsters learned football fundamentals last week. The youth played under the banner of Farmers for Football, a camp revived a year ago.

Tift County High head football coach Noel Dean was pleased with the turnout. Especially, he said, since there was one fewer grade level present than from a year ago. Farmers for Football was a single-day event this time, spanning from grades K-5.

Blue Devils coaches and players presided over the groups. Down the sidelines, players worked on tackling form, route running, laterals movement and hand-eye coordination. The north end zone let the young athletes kick for the uprights while the middle of stadium had two bouncy houses, one for passing and a mini-obstacle course they ran through with footballs.

The workouts were not all work and no play. Players in running back activities got to show off touchdown dances and the bouncy houses provided another type of activity. Freeze pops provided a break in the work.

Dean brought everyone together at the end of the camp.

"Thank you for coming out and having fun," he said. Dean made sure the young campers were aware of the efforts to host the day, thanking the coaches, high school players and managers who made the camp possible. Players received T-shirts and gifts at the conclusion of the day.
