Two weeks into farmers market season, the New Home Community Farmer's Market is hoping to find more booths to get their first season started and support the local volunteer fire department.

The New Home market hopes to run from 8-11 a.m. Saturdays through June, July, and August at the New Home Community Center parking lot, 109 W. Broadway. The inaugural season will help raise funds for the local volunteer fire department.

"This is an effort to support our volunteer fire department and provide for them," said Kendra Sappenfield Martin, organizer for the market. "As our community grows, we end up with a major need for that service. We also want to make sure that they are equipped to do that in a way that's healthy and safe."

But, they have not been able to start their season, due to a lack of vendors.

"We did try to start the first weekend in June, and had to cancel both of our first two weekends just for a lack of vendors," Sappenfield Martin said. "But it seems like interest is picking up, and we're hoping to have the first one this weekend."

The market's booth fees, which benefit the volunteer fire department are: $5 a day or $40 season pass for Junior Booths (ages 16 and younger); $15 a day or $100 season pass for the Standard Booth; and food trucks can book a spot for $15 per day or a $100 season pass. Only three food trucks can attend per week.

"We're not really looking to do anything major or compete with (other markets), this is more to serve the needs of our community," Sappenfield Martin said. "We need booths for them to shop at, so any vendors - especially when you're trying to get a business started - maybe you're not ready for the volume of the major market, or just have a few produce or products to sell. We're kind of going back to the grassroots of what the farmers market was meant to be."
