WOOSTER − The warming weather and blooming trees can only mean one thing: Farmers' market season is upon us.

A few markets across the dual-county area of Wayne and Holmes will open in May and June, providing visitors with a bounty of fresh vegetables, baked goods, artisan crafts and more.

Here's a sampling of markets run by farmers and other locals to check out.

Wooster Downtown Farmers' Market

After 26 years, the Main Street Wooster-run market in downtown Wooster is going strong with a record 47 vendors, said Guinevere Steensen, program manager at Main Street.

Each week will offer items ranging from produce, eggs and meat to honey, hot sauces and home-baked goods like cookies and bread. Even the furry four-legged canine friends have a vendor selling treats.

Live music will accompany the market every weekend starting at 9 a.m. At the same time, Steensen said there will be 22 music performers, dancers and a free Flex Pound and Zumba class.

Each week will feature something new, including wine tastings from Lincoln Way Vineyards and Troutman Vineyards, handmade clothes, sensory play-kits and jewelry.

Secrest Master Gardeners will answer questions on opening day while handing out free Ohio Victory Garden Seeds.

The Lyric Theater will offer open-house tours that day.

Rain or shine, the E&H Ace Hardware-sponsored market is open 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday starting Saturday, May 13, and ending Oct. 14.
