Farmington defeats Clarksville, wins first Arkansas boys soccer state championship
BENTON -- Farmington won its first Arkansas boys soccer state championship Saturday, defeating Clarksville 4-3 at the Benton Athletic Complex.
With 9:01 left in the game, senior forward Mateo Carbonel scored the game-winning goal.
Clarksville (20-2-1) entered the game with its highest single-season win total. The only other state title for the Panthers was in 2007.
In coach Bryan Qualls' 21 years with the program, the Panthers are 1-3 in the finals with other previous appearances in 2010 and 2012.
Farmington had a 2-0 lead going into halftime, but Clarksville scored twice early after the intermission with scores from junior Blay Soe and senior Cody Qualls occurring with 37:13 and 34:17 left.
Farmington senior goalkeeper Steven Gomez was awarded MVP.

Farmington(13-2-3) struck first after Carbonel's throw-in from the left side with 35:11 left in the first half got tipped in from near the net. With 11:27 remaining in the same period, Ettore Bocchi came with momentum from a Clarksville kick to deliver a strong strike to give the Cardinals a 2-0 cushion.
