The Farr Side: 'Celebration Tour' an homage to Madge

Madonna’s “The Celebration Tour” announcement and ticket sales has caused quite a commotion as fans scurry to pick up pre-sale seats for the shows as they become available.

I was pretty thankful to be a CitiCard carrying member because I was able to score seats for the show at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit for later this summer. I mean — C’mon, it’s Madonna. How could I miss this major event? However, we won’t discuss the ticket prices.

Lately, the singer has taken to social media with mixed reactions. Again, it’s Madonna, but the obvious facial changes and slurred words have made some doubt her mental status. But, I lived through her numerous ever-changing and constant reinvention to know that Madonna will always find ways to get people to talk about her. It has never failed her, although I was beginning to question her motives now. That is, until this big announcement was made.

“The Celebration Tour” will be just that — a celebration. She’s promising to highlight her catalog of hits from the past 40-some years. Did I just say 40-some years in reference to Madonna? It almost doesn’t even seem possible.

The tour will transport her fans through her artistic journey through four decades, while paying respect to the city of New York where her career began.

I beg to differ with her. It was Detroit where it truly began. New York City may have been where it got off the ground. But true fans know it was Detroit.

I was one of the lucky people to be in attendance back in 2001 when her famed “Drowned World Tour” came to The Palace of Auburn Hills. I’ll never forget that night as it also on live on HBO. Madonna gave one of the best concert night live performances ever knowing that fans all across the globe were watching it play it live. And, I was in there! She also made it known that she was in her best behavior not just because she was going to be live on HBO, but that her father was in attendance at the Palace, too. We certainly got our monies worth that night. The hairs on my arms felt like needles poking me when she took the stage. It was such a powerful moment!

Being able to see her again now and for it to be like a “greatest hits” show is a dream come true for me. I’m not one of those people who get caught up on an age limit and think people should hang it up. Can you imagine telling someone like Madonna you’re too old to do this?

Ticket for the 35-city tour extravaganza sold out quickly, with some additional shows added to meet demands.

It’s amazing how quickly she can turn on a dime with her social media posts, too. The nonsense stopped and her gratitude kicked in.

“I just want to say thank you to all my fans for all of your love and support over the last few days,” she said on Instagram and TikTok. “I don’t take any of this for granted, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world and I’m so grateful for all of your support. “I can’t wait to put the show together and have a moment with each and every one of you on the stage to celebrate the last four decades of my journey,” she said.

Madonna has released 92 singles, 24 promotional singles and 12 additional charting songs. Per Billboard, she’s the most successful solo artist in the Hot 100 chart history.

She’s scored 63 Top-ten hits and 12 No. 1 singles. Some of her most notable songs include “Borderline,” “Like A Virgin,” “Crazy For You,” “Material Girl,” “Open Your Heart,” “Live To Tell,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Who’s That Girl,” “Like A Prayer,” “Express Yourself,” “Vogue,” “Cherish,” “Deeper And Deeper,” “Rain,” “Take A Bow,” “Secret,” “Ray Of Light,” “You Must Love Me,” “Hung Up” and “Beautiful Stranger” to name a few.

Universal Pictures released statements they would be dropping the much anticipated biopic the singer, herself, was going to direct. I found if understandable as Madonna never does anything half-assed. She’s a perfectionist and right now this tour is a big deal!
