Mar. 13—FARRELL — Coach Bobby Stewart's Farrell High Steelers (13-7) beat Jamestown, 60-35, on Friday to capture the District 10 Class 1A championship at E.J. McCluskey Gymnasium.
It was the 21st district title (13 WPIAL, 8 District 10) for the storied Farrell High boys basketball program.
Farrell held a slim 11-10 lead at the end of the opening quarter and was up 25-19 at halftime.
The Steelers pulled away by outscoring the Muskies 16-4 in the 3rd quarter. Farrell also posted a 19-12 scoring advantage in the final frame.
Lamont Samuels led the way for Farrell with 14 points, Trian Holden scored 10 and Sian Rain added 9 points.
Also for Farrell, Kylon Wilson added 8 points and Omar Stewart chipped in 7.
Peyton McElhinny fired in a game-high 21 points to lead the way for Jamestown (8-15) and Cameron Keyser contributed 8 markers.
Farrell has now won 10 straight games and advances to the 1st round of the PIAA playoffs. The Steelers play at District 5 champion Berlin-Brothersvalley on Tuesday.
The Steelers swept Jamestown during Region 1 play during the regular season — 68-39 and 72-43.
Farrell fell to Lakeview, 55-54 in double-overtime, last season in the District 10 Class 2A championship game. The Steelers advanced to the Elite 8 before COVID-19 shut down the remainder of the season.
Jamestown captured the 2019 District 10 Class 1A championship with a win over Commodore Perry. The Panthers beat the Muskies last year in the D-10 title tilt. This was the 5th straight year the Muskies played for the district crown.
Jamestown's seniors are Sean McElhinny and Dan Parks.
