Farrington announces commission run

Oct. 25—ASHLAND — Sean Farrington is the first person to publicly announce a 2024 campaign for Ashland City Commission.

Farrington started his "Sean Farrington for Ashland City Commission" Facebook page and directed attention to his website — seanforthepeople.com — in a social media announcement earlier this week.

The first day to officially file for a 2024 election race is Nov. 8. Farrington fully intends to have his name on the ballot in next spring's primary election.

If there are more than eight candidates when the primary rolls around, voters will whittle it down to the top eight. Come November 2024, the top four vote collectors will take the seats alongside the new mayor (Matt Perkins is not running again).

Current commissioners are Marty Gute, Cheryl Spriggs, Josh Blanton and Amanda Clark.

In his announcement, Farrington said, "I am passionate about making positive changes in our community and I believe that we can create a thriving Ashland together. I promise to you that I will serve the City of Ashland; I will give it my all to continue to see growth."

The 2011 Boyd County High School graduate has lived in Ashland since 2022. He attended Ashland Community and Technical College and Lindsey Wilson College, from where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. He is currently enrolled in a graduate program there.

Farrington is a mental health counselor. He is on the board for Ashland Pride. He has served on the vestry board for Calvary Episcopal Church for the last seven years.

"In my years of leadership, I have been on the front lines of implementing change," he wrote on his page.
