Fashion creator describes ‘four levels’ of getting ready that she picked up in Korea: ‘It’s the best way to ask your girls, ‘OK, how are we looking?’

Following a recent trip to Korea, a Canadian content creator has taken to TikTok to share what she’s claimed to be a “viral” tactic used among Korean women to decide how dressed up they should get for outings.

On Sept. 30, Stephanie Ahn (@stephanieahn), a Korean Canadian fashion and beauty influencer in Toronto, revealed what she’s described as the “four levels” of getting ready to go out that she claims to always be using now.

“OK, there’s something going viral in Korea and it’s the different levels of getting ready to go see your friends when you go hang out,” she says.

Level one, according to Ahn, requires zero makeup.

“Level one is completely barefaced, no makeup, get a quick little coffee and go back home. Like, straight away. Completely sweatpants look — lazy,” she explains, before delving into level two.

Women who are doing activities that require a “level two” amount of effort put on minimal makeup, Ahn says, like concealer, to go somewhere “that’s a bit more established” and so as not to be “embarrassed” about how they look.

‘Level four is full on, we are going to slay’

The distinguishing factor between levels three and four, Ahn says, is whether or not your outfit and overall look is Instagram Story- versus Post-ready.

“Level three is, ‘OK, I’m gonna put enough makeup on and put on a decent outfit. Enough to be on the Insta Story, not the feed,” she says. “Level four is full on, we are going to slay. We’re gonna have the outfit, the makeup’s gonna be on point and we are going out to get that in-feed post. …This is literally so genius. It’s the best way to ask your girls, ‘OK, how are we looking?'”

Ahn first heard about the “four levels” when a friend in Korea sent her a meme about it on Instagram. The meme was a screenshot of a conversation discussing the different levels of getting ready.

“I thought the whole concept was so relatable and such a good practical way to ask my friends how we’re dressing for a hangout/night out,” Ahn told In The Know by Yahoo via email. “We usually have to send photos of our outfits but the level 1-4 strategy makes it so easy to explain to friends how we should coordinate looks. I thought other people would also relate to this and benefit from it so I decided to share it on TikTok!”

Fellow fashion girlies on TikTok have since used Ahn’s original sound describing the “viral” Korean trend on their own videos, in which they “get ready” for each level.

With more than 4.3 million views, 875,300 likes and 111,900 saves as of reporting, it’s clear that Ahn’s video has captured the attention of several users — who are revealing the level they tend to be at.

“I always look at least level 3 because you never know who you’ll see out in public, you gotta always slay,” @tias.travels commented.

“POV you live in Europe so levels 1 and 2 do not exist,” @morelikemasha wrote.

“I’m either a level 1 or level 4 no in between,” @kaitlynjx declared.
