How fast is Bryce Young?

The mystery remains unsolved, but the former Alabama quarterback might not keep it that way.

Young threw for scouts representing all 32 NFL clubs Thursday at Alabama's Pro Day, but he chose not to run the 40-yard dash, a drill he also skipped at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. But he's willing to turn on the speed for NFL teams if they request that in a private workout in the lead-up to next month's NFL draft.

"That's up to the teams. We'll see what they ask of me," Young said. "Whatever the teams ask, that's what I want to do."

He's the potential No. 1 overall pick of the draft next month; the Carolina Panthers have a need at the position and hold the first selection. Young confirmed that he dined Wednesday night with multiple members of the Panthers organization, from ownership to the front office to the coaching staff.

But if the Panthers and other quarterback-needy teams selecting high in the first round wanted to see his wheels on Thursday, they left Tuscaloosa with that box unchecked.

Young wasn't alone.

Tight end Cam Latu and cornerback Eli Ricks were the only two Crimson Tide players to participate in the 40-yard dash, as most of Alabama's top prospects turned in solid clockings at the combine.

UA coach Nick Saban said Young has several key selling points as a draft prospect, and doesn't believe his height (5-foot-10) is a concern.

"His production and consistency in performance, and his instinctive ability to play the position, and the kind of person he is in terms of how he prepares," Saban said. "… I don't think (height) is an issue. It wasn't an issue in his college career."
