31-year-old man killed in Interstate 75 crash near Bradenton exit ramp, FHP says
A fatal crash on Interstate 75 is causing major southbound delays in Bradenton on Friday, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Live video footage of the scene showed firefighters, EMS and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the morning crash.
FHP says the crash caused a “complete roadblock” at State Road 64’s southbound exit 220.
According to an FHP crash report released Friday afternoon, the crash happened when a 31-year-old Tampa man in a Dodge Ram pickup truck “suddenly” attempted to change lanes and struck the guard rail separating the southbound travel lanes and exit ramp.
Troopers say the pickup truck flipped over and landed on its roof in the exit ramp lanes around 9:10 a.m. According to investigators, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 56-year-old Bradenton woman driving a Honda Civic ahead of the pickup truck had her vehicle struck by debris from the crash, but she was injured, according to the crash report.
As of 4:20 p.m., the exit ramp remains closed to southbound traffic, according to FDOT. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and expect southbound delays.
Bradenton police tweeted that the crash “has many drivers diverting to the Green and DeSoto bridges. Please anticipate delays if you’re traveling to Bradenton from the north.”
