A West Palm Beach woman died Sunday when the car she was driving struck a concrete power pole at the intersection of Military Trail and Belvedere Road west of Palm Beach International Airport.

Sophie Prudhomme, 29, was traveling south in the early hours of Sunday morning on Military Trail when she attempted to make a left-hand turn. Another car, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the passenger side of Prudhomme’s Hyundai, redirecting it in a northeast direction where it struck the concrete power pole on the northbound lane, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office report. Prudhomme was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. A passenger in her car sustained serious injuries.
