A Los Angeles man was found dead in his car Saturday morning on a hillside in Thousand Oaks after an earlier crash, Ventura County Sheriff's officials said.

The white sedan was noticed by a passerby around 6:40 a.m. off South Westlake Boulevard, south of Potrero Road, said Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. William Hutton.

A deputy found the car about 75 feet up the hillside, authorities said. The driver was found inside "obviously deceased," Hutton said. No one else was in the vehicle.

Authorities later said the man was 53 years old. His name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives.

Sheriff's traffic investigators found the car had been traveling southbound on Westlake when it left the roadway south of Potrero. The vehicle drove up an embankment and hit a Southern California Edison pole before it stopped about 275 feet from where it went off the road.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the sheriff's Thousand Oaks traffic bureau and the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. Witnesses are asked to call Senior Deputy Marcos Moreno at 805-494-8245.
