Lehigh Acres teen dies in fatal crash involving dump, tow trucks in North Fort Myers
A Lehigh Acres teen died Monday morning in a fiery crash when the loaded dump truck he was driving collided with a tow truck in North Fort Myers.
The crash, about 7:50 a.m., occurred when a 37-year-old Lehigh Acres man was headed east on Mellow Lane, near Barbie. According to Florida Highway Patrol, he crossed the center line with the left side of his vehicle hitting the left side dump truck, driven by a Lehigh Acres man, 19.
The dump truck overturned and caught fire. The teen died at the scene.
The crash closed Del Prado Boulevard North by Barbie Lane for several hours. Mellow Drive remained closed about 1 p.m. as workers cleaned up a diesel fuel spill, troopers reported
The travel lanes on nearby Del Prado blocked about 9:30 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.

Authorities did not release the names of the victims in accordance with Marsy's Law.
The death is at least the 73nd fatality on Lee County roads in 2022 according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
