Fatal crash near Micanopy shuts down part of Interstate 75 for hours in Alachua County

A portion of Interstate 75 in Alachua County was shut down for hours on Saturday following a fatal crash near Micanopy, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Southbound I-75 at mile marker 374.

What led to the crash?

According to the FHP report, a Subaru sedan was traveling south in the middle lane of I-75 when its driver lost control and collided with a Ford box truck being driven by a 29-year-old Gainesville man. The collision caused the box truck to hit the guardrail and the Subaru further overturned onto the shoulder and hit a tree.

The driver of the Subaru — a man — was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger and a male passenger from South Pittsburg, Tennessee, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the box truck was not injured.
